One of our PhD students, Sophie Mohamed, is currently looking for volunteers of all ages to take part in a body image study using the School of Psychology’s new state-of-the-art 3D body scanner.
The project aims to create a large database of different body shapes and sizes, to get an accurate representation of how people’s bodies vary in real life. This study involves a 20-second body scan, which creates a 3D CGI model of a person’s body that can be moved around on a computer screen. Body composition measurements, such as body fat, muscle mass, visceral fat and basal metabolic rate, are also taken by standing on a bio-impedance scale. This project has had a very positive response so far, with over 150 people taking part in the past month.
Sophie is excited to be advertising her study on June 21st at the Lincolnshire Show, so keep an eye out! She would be more than happy to have a chat about her research and answer any questions you may have. Other body image researchers from the University’s Person Perception Lab will also be there helping out, with a range of interests including eating disorders, cultural ideals, the role of social media, and lots more!
Sophie can also be contacted directly at sMohamed@lincoln.ac.uk, if you would like to get involved in her project or find out more.
